For this project I was asked to create a story about the citybells of Maastricht. Local carillonneur Frank Steijns told me that he was worried that new laws could silence his carillon. Was the future really as bleak as Frank saw it? To clearly communicate to people what the stakes were, I went on to write an audio story about four market vendors discussing the carillon playing from the old townhall in the middle of the marketsquare.
I created the physical marketplace to fully immerse the visitors in my story. Using the stereo function of headphones I made it seem like the voices really came from either the left or right market vendors.
The installation stood in Museum Maastricht between 19 April 2024 and 31 Juli 2024.
